Direct answer

What is SDS and MSDS translation?

SDS/MSDS translation converts an existing safety data sheet into the required language while preserving its section structure, substance identifiers, measurements, warnings and revision information. WLS translates the supplied source; regulatory classification, market approval and SDS authoring remain the responsibility of the document owner and its qualified advisers.

Documents in scope

What we translate

Send the complete document set and explain how the files relate to one another. We confirm the scope, language team and required output after reviewing the material.

Complete safety data sheets

Existing SDS or legacy MSDS documents supplied by manufacturers, importers or distributors.

Product and substance families

Related sheets that need consistent chemical names, phrases and section headings.

Exposure and handling information

Occupational limits, protective equipment, storage conditions and handling precautions.

Transport and disposal sections

Shipping classifications and disposal statements exactly as provided in the approved source.

Emergency information

First-aid, firefighting and accidental-release content requiring careful terminology review.

Revision-controlled updates

Changed sections, issue dates and product versions aligned with the correct source release.

Accuracy controls

What must stay consistent

  • Keep the section numbers and headings aligned with the approved source document.
  • Do not convert units, identifiers, classifications or exposure limits unless the brief explicitly requires an authorised conversion.
  • Verify product names, chemical names, CAS numbers and abbreviations against the supplied references.
  • Preserve hazard and precautionary statements exactly in meaning; flag uncertain or inconsistent source text.
  • Track the source revision, target market and target language so an old translation is not paired with a new source.

Industries and teams

Who uses this service?

  • Chemical manufacturers and distributors
  • Automotive and industrial suppliers
  • Pharmaceutical and laboratory operations
  • Paints, coatings, adhesives and speciality materials
  • EHS, procurement and compliance teams

Procurement teams, technical writers, engineers, quality managers and export teams can nominate a reviewer and provide approved terminology for the project.

Files and layout

How we handle the source files

Editable Word or Excel files are preferred. We can also review searchable PDFs, scans and formatted source documents. Where the translated sheet must match an established layout, combine translation with multilingual DTP.

External reference

Check the rule that applies to your document

For reference, the US OSHA mandatory SDS appendix identifies the information associated with the SDS section format, while the European Chemicals Agency explains EU safety-data-sheet requirements. These external rules are market-specific. WLS does not replace a chemical safety or regulatory adviser.

External references are independent sources and do not imply affiliation or universal applicability.

Questions about SDS and MSDS translation

Is MSDS translation different from SDS translation?

MSDS is an older term still commonly used in enquiries. We cover both terms on one page because the request normally concerns translation of a safety data sheet.

Do you create or approve an SDS?

We translate the source supplied by the document owner. We do not invent missing safety data, classify a chemical or certify regulatory compliance.

Can you preserve all 16 sections?

Yes, when the source uses that structure, the translated document can preserve its numbering and organisation. The exact market requirement should be confirmed by your regulatory team.

Can several related SDS files use the same terminology?

Yes. Send the full set, product naming rules and approved terminology so recurring phrases can be managed consistently.

Which languages are available?

WLS handles major foreign languages and Indian vernacular languages. Availability, subject expertise and delivery are confirmed for the specific language pair and document set.
